Frederike Music — Soulful, Jazzy Pop with a Crystal-Clear Voice

Frederike Music is a passionate Dutch trio, formed in 2015 by Frederike Schonis (vocals), Albert van Dorssen(piano/composition), and Juan van Emmerloot (drums/production).

What defines them
They write and release original music rooted in jazz, soul, and pop, shaped by the rich musical backgrounds of each member. Frederike, with more than 30 years of experience in the Benelux jazz scene, brings deeply personal and emotional lyrics that radiate warmth and optimism. Albert’s background in soul and jazz (including with the Jan Somers Band and Licks & Brains), combined with Juan’sinternational career as a drummer, writer, and producer, results in sophisticated and professional compositions.

Releases and style
In June 2025, the trio released the single “Rosé Song” — an ode to celebrating life and cherishing small, meaningful moments. The track was written collaboratively by all three members and is available on all major platforms. Earlier releases include “In the Silence of the Stars” (March 2025) and “World at Your Feet” (September 2024), which highlight the band’s intimate, purposeful, and narrative musical style.

Music process and collaboration
Each Frederike Music song grows from organic jam sessions and the open exchange of ideas. Their creative process blends personal influences into a refined and unique sound.
Juan is responsible for the full recording and production process, supported by a circle of trusted professional musicians. Together, the team consistently strives for the highest musical quality.

The music of Frederike Music invites listeners to pause and reflect on life’s everyday moments—resilience, love, introspection. It is emotionally rich, crystal-clear, and hopeful, with a signature blend of jazz, soul, and pop.

Vision and ambition
Frederike Music is committed to continuing the release of high-quality original work, including EPs, singles, and visual projects. Their debut EP, “Changing Tides”, features four original tracks with accompanying visuals and photography, establishing their identity as storytellers and creators. Onstage, the group aims to perform on both regional and national stages, steadily building a loyal fanbase and reaching new audiences.
Their ultimate goal is to bring their original music to audiences worldwide.
Frederike Schonis has been singing jazz for over 30 years and therefore she has a wide experience and knowledge of her jazz repertoire. She performed with various line-ups and traditional combos throughout the Benelux. However, her urge to write original compositions, based on her personal and emotional life, grew more and more. Frederike’s optimistic view of the world and her warm sultry voice are now brought together in a compilation of own songs.
The band
Albert van Dorssen, pianist and composer, has a taste for soul music and jazz and has been playing in many ensembles throughout his musical career. His passion is to create original music. As a composer Albert was active when playing in the "Jan Somers Band", a crossover Jazz-rock band that released the CD "Here We Are". Albert can also be heard on many CD productions of Dutch XL band ‘Licks & Brains’.
Juan van Emmerloot is drummer, composer and producer of FREDERIKE MUSIC. Besides his drumming talent Juan brings in a huge international musical experience. Juan participated in many different international rock & blues acts. After touring with Snowy White and the 'SBG' (Stef Burns Group) Juan set up his own studio in the Netherlands and developed his view on recording and producing.
In 2019 Frederike, Albert and Juan decided to team up and start their band which they named FREDERIKE MUSIC. Frederike, Albert and Juan are responsible for first ideas and song elaborations. Juan takes full control over the recording and producing. FREDERIKE MUSIC collaborates with a group of friend artists and professionals which contribute to our aim to produce the best possible music. It is a feast to work together with such talented musicians
